About Karin Ward

My dad was a teacher at Tucson Unified. He told me I was crazy to go into teaching, but I did anyway. After graduating from college in Tempe in 1981, I began my teaching career in a second grade classroom at Paradise Valley School District. I moved to the middle school where I taught computers, social studies, and Spanish...oh, and met my husband. We moved to Chino Valley to raise our children and chickens. I finished my masters in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University. I left the classroom after twenty years. After being a principal at Liberty Traditional School for three years, I felt called to come to Beaver Creek as the principal and superintendent. I began as a Creeker in 2004 and LOVE being here. The families are wonderful. The community is amazing...just look at the new buildings paid for by taxpayers voting in a bond. The only reason we come to work every day is to make a difference in the lives of our students. Thank you for entrusting your children to us!

About Devon Artrip

I am a fifth-year Kindergarten teacher whose classroom runs on caffeine, laughter, and the randomness of what little kids think and do. I became a teacher after my first time working as a color guard/tall flag advisor at a High School in California, and while teaching art and life skills at Northern Arizona Boys & Girls Clubs in Cottonwood and Sedona. When I’m not at school, I am spending time with my husband and our many fur babies, gardening, creating fine art photography and remodeling various rooms of my home after watching too many home improvement shows on HGTV.

About Juli Herring

I would like to introduce myself! I am Juli Herring, or Ms. Herring. Welcome to First Grade. I am a new team member at Beaver Creek School and I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with your family and child this year! I have taught for more than 30 years. My experience started in Flagstaff after I graduated from NAU. I taught at a Montessori school when my daughter was on her way. After she was born I taught Pre-K at a Coop school in Flagstaff. In 1989 I relocated to Camp Verde and my first public school job was at Camp Verde Elementary. I was there for 10 years before I taught at CES, Tavasi and Cottonwood Middle School for another 10 years. In 2009 I moved to Kansas to help take care of my grandmother and my parents. I was there another 10 years before I decided to return to Az. to be closer to family. I have taught Kindergarten, First, Second and 6th-grade History and Language Arts. Most of the time was spent with Kinders but First Grade is a magical year. Your child will refine many skills learned in Kindergarten and soar to places you won’t imagine. Together, as a team, with communication and genuine concern for each child, I hope we can create a successful team for each one of our First Graders!

Biography

About Jeff Reeves

Hello, my name is Mr. Reeves I have been with Beaver Creek Elementary for two years. My first year I worked as the traditional education teacher for fifth through eighth grade and then my second year I worked as a fourth grade teacher. Over my time at Beaver Creek, I have coached the 4th and 5th grade Basketball team under Coach Clark. As a coach, I value the connections I have built with the players on the team. The story of how I became a teacher is brief. I was taking psychology classes at Glendale Community College in Phoenix. At that time, I had a neighbor who was a high school honors English teacher and she was always interested in how my classes were going. During some of those talks, she encouraged me to take a course in education. After taking her advice, I enrolled in an education class and found it to be more rewarding than my psychology classes. Since then I have been pursing my passion for education.

About Barbra Robles

I am excited to be working at Beaver Creek Elementary. I have lived in Rimrock for eight years. I have been teaching for 10 years. I enjoy grades fifth through eighth, especially math and science. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Science. At the time I was graduating, Windows and MAC computers were new toys to have. Cell phones weren't really a thing yet. I found myself going into computer IT work because I thought all that tech stuff was so interesting, I found I was constantly teaching my boss and the whole office how to use the new technology that came out year after year. As much as I loved tech stuff I found I loved teaching it more. Over time I switched careers to teaching. I am happy to combine things I enjoy all in one, kids and teaching.

Biography

About Jordan Harris

My name is Jordan Harris, I am an alumni of Beaver Creek School and a co-valedictorian my 8th grade year in 2003. Growing up I was a very creative and artistic child who spent a lot of time drawing, painting, and even sculpting. After high school (2007) I went on to Northern Arizona University on the AIMS scholarship where I enrolled in the Education program. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with an SEI (structured English immersion) and Art endorsement (2011). Within a month after graduation and certification, I started my teaching journey at the first place that would hire me fresh from school, Buckeye. I taught art there for 2 years in K-8 seeing over 1000 students a week as well as tutor math after school and host art and drama club. From there I worked in the Paradise Valley School district at the high school level and taught ceramics. After a major life change and the birth of my first daughter my husband and I moved back home to the Verde Valley (he too is a Beaver Creek Alumni) I began my teaching journey with Beaver Creek School in the summer of 2014. I started as the coordinator of the after school program and middle school art teacher. After two years I decided to take a step back from teaching and stay home for my mother and my daughter. During that time my husband and I welcomed our second child, a boy! After the Red for Ed movement began my husband, daughter, son, and I participated in the educator march at the state capitol. After the march I felt the call to come back to education and reached out to Beaver Creek School once again. The timing was right and I took a 5/6th math and science position. That year my husband and I welcomed our last and third child, another girl! After two years of teaching 5/6th math and science I now teach 6th grade English and 6-8th math. How did an art teacher become a math teacher you might ask? Well, unlike a lot of art teachers (and most would agree) I have always had a knack for math and have received math based awards throughout my life (one even from Mr. Dix at Beaver Creek school). I love teaching math and working through problems creatively. Like art and math, I genuinely love teaching and can’t imagine doing anything else with my life. I had a professor in college that would say, “If you could wake up every morning and can’t imagine doing anything else, you’ve chosen the right profession for you. Find your Bliss!” I have lived my life by this idea and I am currently finding my “Bliss” here at Beaver Creek School. Not only am I a proud employee, but I am a proud parent as well; 2 of my 3 children are students here at Beaver Creek. I am excited to start my 8th year as a teacher at such a wonderful school. Once a Creeker, always a Creeker!

About Jessica Lux-Herrera

I have been a Special Education Teacher for approximately 13 years and this will be my 10th year at Beaver Creek School. To say I absolutely love and adore all children is an understatement. Working with Special needs children is my passion. Seeing their faces and their eyes light up when learning a new concept is what drives me to be there number one cheerleader. I want my students to know that they are capable of anything they put their minds to and with hard work and perseverance they can achieve any goal they set their minds to. Learning comes in many different ways as well as success, and we celebrate every milestone my students achieve. I love teaching and I also love learning from my students. Every year I will continue to advocate for my students and teach them to advocate for themselves so they can be the very best they can possibly be. I so look forward to working with my students this year and watching them become smarter, more confident, and knowing they always have a safe and loving environment when they are away from home.
